I’ve been writing this newsletter for five years, and I am delighted that every month people open it. Thank you for being here. I am very lucky.
Things will be changing moving forward. The newsletter will now be weekly. It will still include poetry, updates on plants, and tiny stories from my family, but I will also be writing about books and articles, conducting interviews, and doing Q&As. There will also be some audio posts (aka podcasts).
Money: Over the years, many of you have pledged to support this newsletter financially, and I have not turned on payments, but these pledges have meant so much to me. I keep the notification in my inbox for weeks, reminding myself that people value my work. Thank you!
I will turn on the payments this week, but there will be no paywall. Pay if you’d like.
As for the Q&A posts: send your question! You can reply to this newsletter, email me at slicejessica [at] gmail [dot] com, or fill out the contact form on my website. Questions can be advice, opinions, or even help picking out a sweater.
The newsletter has a new title: Whatever What Is, which is a line from one of my favorite poems by Galway Kinnell, called, fittingly, prayer.
Whatever happens. Whatever
what is is is what
I want. Only that. But that.
It’s a poem that reminds me of what I want to do with my writing: tell the complicated truth, even when it takes more work or makes less sense.
I’ll be back next week, writing about bodies and suffering.
Grateful for you.
So delighted to be hearing from you more often!
I applaud your new direction and hope it gives your great satisfaction.
